Baby Shower Ideas
Having a baby is one of the most celebrated life events. For many mothers, the baby shower is one of the most important events in her life. The hostess can take steps to make sure that the shower is memorable not just for the mom to be, but for the guests as well. Picking a theme shower can give the party some extra excitement, especially when you use ideas that haven’t been overdone.
Before we get to the baby shower theme ideas, there are some must haves that will be perfect for any theme. Baby shower cakes are usually one of the most important centers of attention at a baby shower! Also, don't for get the baby favors! There are also some great shower candy wrappers that are great as baby shower party favors.
Couples showers are now becoming a popular baby shower theme idea so that mom doesn’t have to hoard all the fun. Dad may want to feel included, too, and a couples shower gives a new face to the baby showers of the past. When holding a couples baby shower, make sure that you invite friends of both parents. In order to cater some to dad, have him help pick the party’s theme.
Food at a couples baby shower should include things to entice the men to come. Have them grill for you; this can go on while the girly stuff is going on like guessing how many toilet paper squares go around mom’s belly. A mix of family and friends will make the baby shower more like a party, which really works well for some couples.
If hosting a baby shower for couples, make sure to play competitive men versus women games to add some excitement. This will have everyone laughing so hard that mom just might go into labor… Men are competitive, and when you hand them a challenge, they will do anything to win.
Game ideas for fun men versus women games include timed diaper changes on baby dolls. For extra fun, have them change the baby blindfolded or only use one hand.
Making the shower physical will bring laughs for everyone. Hold a NASCAR stroller race, and designate a king or queen of NASCAR. Have each participant push a stroller through an obstacle course as fast as they can, timing it with a stopwatch. Make sure baby doesn’t fly out of the stroller as the driver navigates a host of treacherous turn or obstacle.
The men don’t want to be left out of feeling pregnant. Get some XXXL pants and T-Shirts and divide everyone into teams. The new “moms” (really the guys) will pull the extra large clothing on, with balloons already waiting. Have each team try to get the man the “most” pregnant by stuffing as many balloons as possible in the moms clothing. This game will be a blast, but it only gets better when you count the balloons by popping them inside the clothing. There might be some well-endowed men before the game is over…
Of course, it doesn’t have to be a couples shower to play these games. Having the guys around definitely adds a heightened element of fun and laughter, though. Make sure that you have good door prizes for the guys to thank them for coming – think gift cards to sports or video stores. They are, after all, just big kids. This might be the last chance to have a grown up get together without kids. Make the most of it.

I think couples showers are becoming more popular because people are feeling more and more that the dad should be included in the celebration as much as the mom.
But the key to a couples shower is to make it a comfortable environment for both men and women. Which means staying away from the frilly, girly stuff like lace, pastel colors, princess themes, etc.
For a couples shower, the luau and sports themes seem to work best.
