This get everyone in the mood for a good time, so try to grab the kids as they come in the door for this. This might be a good operation to enlist some help on, so see if you have any friends or older children who are interested in helping out.

Joke telling
Have a joke-telling contest and give out rewards for whoever makes everyone else laugh the most. You can also tell a few yourself to get things started, or you can play games that will help you get the party loosened up. Pass out jokes written on cards and see if anyone can guess the punchlines, and you can always send your partygoers home with joke pamphlets. You'll find that things whoopie cushions and other physical joke items are great take home gifts.

Games

Have a list of animals drawn up and see if the kids act out what circus animal that you have named. This is also a great way to segue into a game of statues. Have the kids act out the circus animal of their choice until you yell freeze, at which point, the only children left moving are out.
