American Idol Party Ideas
American Idol Invitations
When staging such a large-scale event, give yourself plenty of time to plan for the details. Center everything around the Idol theme, from invitations to activities. A great idea to get everyone in the mood with invitations is to make them with the question “Are YOU the next American Idol? Come to our party at (BIRTHDAY LOCATION) on (BIRTHDAY TIME / DATE) and find out”. You may want to indicate that kids are not required to sing, or that they can do a group or lip syncing version.
American Idol Decorations and Activities
Once kids arrive, greet them with the classic American Idol colored decorations. Use silver and blue, with silver stars hanging. Have a stage area setup, with a fabric or butcher paper in the background. You can often find the loud type of fabric for a dollar or two a yard. Streamers and white Christmas lights complete the ensemble. For an added touch, have guests enter on the red carpet, aka red butcher paper, or other inexpensive fabric.
The one thing you will not want to forget is a judge’s table. Have a couple of parents volunteer to stay and “judge”. Have another parent operate the karaoke machine. Make sure that kids have a list of songs, and have them fill out a form with their performance ahead of time. Provide pens and papers for the judges, and a trophy or small prizes for the contestants.
Have enough award categories for all of the kids singing. Make categories such as best vocals, choreography, costumes, funniest, group, etc… Hand out certificates after the show, and make sure to stir up lots of applause for these performers.
American Idol Cakes
Once you are ready for the cake, keep that in theme as well. Make a microphone cake, with a round cake with a rectangular bottom, decorated as a microphone. That link takes you to a microphone and guitar cake that was made for a Hannah Montana birthday party, but it could easily be adapted for an American Idol theme birthday party. Or make star cakes (cakes in the shape of a star) or a round record cake such as this American Idol Theme Cakes, or make cupcakes with stars all over them. All the little “stars” can enjoy a good time.
When sending the kids home, another great idea is to send them home with a CD as a party favor in opposition to the traditional party favor. Make it a CD with the songs from the night so they can all go home and practice their act. You can also send them home with a sweet treat such as these silver screen personalized candy bars that work very well with the American Idol theme.
With a little work, you can make your party a star-studded event. With the planning and hard work, it’s sure to be a party even Simon would approve of. Best of luck with your big day.
