Barbie Birthday Party Ideas
Birthday invitations should indicate that it will be a dress up party; that way kids can dress in easy to play clothes. Make your birthday invitations personal with a picture of your Barbie princess on the front. You could also use these princess party invitations if you do not want to make the invitations yourself. Decorations for a Barbie party are fairly easy to come up with inexpensively. Look for discount fabric in pink and purple tulle, using part of this for the decorations and part for dress up. Some of the best dress up clothes come from fabric that kids drape around themselves.
For a special touch, have “Barbie” make an appearance herself. Get one of the neighborhood high school students to stop by and pop in like Santa Clause. She can sing Happy Birthday to your little princess, and hand out goody bags with princess party favors. Barbie costumes should be available at a party store, or have her wear an old formal for dress up. Your little kids aren’t the only ones who will love this - the teenager will have a blast entertaining the little ones.
Every princess needs her Prince Charming. Have the Prince Charming come and “rescue” all the little Barbie Princesses for a special treat. They will have to make it back to the “castle” by using his treasure hunt. Pass out clues, and have the kids go through the yard (or neighborhood) and find their way to the cake and ice cream that awaits all little girls back in the magical Kingdom.
While at the castle, there is a jester available to entertain the kids. Have them play all the traditional birthday games with a “Barbie” twist. Pin the crown on Barbie is a fun one, as kids will invariably miss and have the crown in fun places.
Have a Barbie dance contest for the kids. Ken is available for the special girl, of course. This might just burn some energy in time for the cake.
The Barbie cake can be anything, from the traditional cake with Barbie, to an upright cake made in a bowl. If it’s an upright cake, you can actually put a Barbie doll in the center, and make the icing design to match the party theme. If the upright cake isn’t enough, offer the kids their own cupcakes to decorate. This is a surefire winner every time, right along with a bowl of candy decorations.
Party favors that will win are stickers and jewelry for the little princesses to take home. Put them in a pretty handbag (maybe even one they have made as an art and craft activity during the party) so they can have a keepsake from the party.
Before you know it, your little princess will really be meeting her Prince Charming. Enjoy the little girl years when she is playing Cinderella. These are the years she will treasure as she gets older.
